The mainland is made up of several continents surrounded by the Great Ocean. Explorers found that if they sailed far enough away from the continents in any direction eventually they would encounter a wall of mist and a tremendous roaring sound. The currents near the mist are very strong, drawing in any ships that ventured too close. Anyone who sailed into the mist disappeared forever. The explorers sailed along the edge of the mist and found that it curved like a great circle enclosing a huge area of ocean. A man named Edmund Arsi devised of a way to deploy large magical balloons of air from his ship and take flight, creating the first airship. He flew beyond the mist and discovered that the ocean fell away from the world like a gigantic waterfall which became known as The Drop. Beyond this lays a vast void, shrouded in mist, with no clear beginning or end. If you squint into the distance you can see the dark outline of islands floating in the air.
